THE DREAM
THE DREAM

You gotta risk it, to get the biscuit
We hired a local surveyor to assess the condition of the boat and placed our bid with the auction company. A few days and one very intense bidding war via phone / email later, we were the "proud" owners of a hurricane Irma destroyed Leopard 44 sailing catamaran named Python Voyager 2. The plan was to tow the boat from the salvage yard to a loading area and ship the boat from Tortola BVI to Fort Lauderdale Florida USA on an enormous cargo ship. We would then receive the vessel in Florida, get it through customs, hire a tow boat to drag it up the coast 100 miles to a DIY boat yard and start the process of selling everything to move near the boat for repairs full time.
All during the peak of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, a situation that increased an already difficult task by 10x. But we had our blinders on--nothing could stop us in pursuit of THE DREAM!
Make time to live, at all costs
So, what is THE DREAM? It looks different for everyone, but for us, it starts with these things:
-
Exploring indefinitely
-
Creating space for boundless creativity
-
Forming meaningful connections with places and people
-
Demystifying barriers to help others succeed
-
Encouraging environmental stewardship
-
Finding outer (and inner) peace

We lost our minds but found ourselves.
In the midst of a global pandemic, we, like many, found ourselves feeling trapped and closed off. As owners and operators of a transportation company, enforced lockdowns, banned public gatherings and mandated closures of businesses left us floundering and our business struggling. The future looked bleak.
Then things got a little... crazy.
We decided we needed more freedom and more control over our lives.
We love traveling, immersing ourselves into different cultures, turning new people into new friends and exploring the awesomeness of nature. But it’s expensive--REALLY expensive. You gotta pay to get there, pay to be there, pay to leave and then work overtime when you get back. We were working 70+ hours a week opearting our business, 50 weeks a year just to do what we truly love for 2 weeks. There had to be a better way.
One pandemic night, we stumbled on a web listing for a skeleton of a sailboat in the British Virgin Islands. It clicked. This sailboat could lead to inexpensive, indefinite, global travel. Almost anywhere the ocean goes, we could go. We could have solar, wind, and hydro power sources to be off grid. Electric motors and sails for propulsion would eliminate the need for dependance on fossil fuels. Ample deck space would allow us to grow some of our own food. Water maker for making water anytime, anywhere. But could we make this change a reality? The dream boat was 2000 miles (roughly 3219 km) away in a different country we couldn't travel to due to lockdowns. We would have to quit our jobs, sell everything, move away from friends and family and take a BIG chance. So we did.
